Can I also install solar panels on my roof?

In most circumstances, solar panels can be installed on FALK insulated roof panels, but this will depend on the chosen span of the panels and the substructure. Always seek professional advice in order to avoid any potential problems. Special brackets are available that can be mounted on our sandwich panels. Can I also attach accessories to my façade sandwich panels?

Façade sandwich panels are the ideal carrier for your favourite accessories. Wood, solar panels, green walls and composite materials can all be mounted on our façade sandwich panels, especially when using the appropriate carrier panels. We are happy to advise on the maximum load and load-bearing capacity and on the best way to attach the panels and accessories.

Can a carrier panel also be used on a roof?

A carrier panel is actually a sandwich panel that is designed to support an accessory. Accessories, such as solar panels, are often mounted on roofs. We therefore distinguish between carrier panels for roofs and carrier panels for façades. View our carrier panels here.

Do I need special screws to attach accessories to a carrier panel?

The type of screw you need depends on the application. Always ask the supplier of the accessory what type of screw is best to use. Screws vary greatly in terms of tensile strength. If you are unsure, please contact our technical advisors on +31 (0)318 670 670.

What are carrier sandwich panels?

Sandwich panels are a commonly used material for cladding roofs and façades on almost all types of buildings. Their excellent insulation value and the fact that they can be tailored to your project justify this popularity. The difference between a carrier panel and a ‘regular’ sandwich panel is that an accessory can be mounted on carrier panels. To ensure this is done responsibly, we ask one of our specialists to assess the load-bearing capacity of the panel and then advise on the right solution – including the right screws and fasteners – for your situation.

FALK carrier panels are manufactured on our own modern production lines in Ede. Similar to ‘regular’ sandwich panels, a carrier sandwich panel consists of three components:

A profiled metal exterior skin: This is the outer layer of the wall panel, on to which the accessory is mounted. This means that forces are exerted on this sheet. As a result, carrier sandwich panels tend to have a thicker exterior skin than ‘regular’ sandwich panels.
PIR insulation core: To insulate the carrier sandwich panel, we apply a layer of PIR insulation to the profiled sheet under high pressure. PIR is a unique composition of various chemical components. The thicker the insulation core, the higher the insulation value of your insulated roofing panel. FALK also offers a circular version of the insulation core for wall panels, the CradleCore®.
A profiled metal interior skin: The combination of two steel sheets with insulation in between creates a ‘sandwich’ effect. The result? A strong, rigid product. The interior skin also provides a sleek, hard-wearing finish.

Carrier panels for roofs

Carrier sandwich panels can be used on roofs and façades. When used on roofs, they are often used to support solar panels, for example. FALK supplies a range of carrier panels for roofs, the most popular models being the FALK 1000 TR and the FALK 1100 TR3+. These roofing panels have a trapezoidal profile to which the accessory can be easily attached.

Both trapezoidal models are also available as solutions for flat roofs, and both panels can also be used to support various accessories. In many cases, a bracket or holder is first mounted on the carrier panel, to which the accessory is then attached.

Most roofs are installed at a height, which means that the panels need to be able to withstand all kinds of weather. For calculating the load-bearing capacity of the panel, we have developed a fantastic tool: the FALKULATOR.

Several applications are suitable for use on roofs. Here are a few of the most popular ones:

Carrier roofing panels with solar panels

In the Netherlands, many solar panels are installed on roofs; this is a popular way of generating renewable energy. And what could be better than using your roof panels for that? The larger the surface area of the panels and the better the alignment and pitch of the roof, the more energy will be generated. Carrier sandwich panels are an ideal construction for support for solar panels. There are various schemes and subsidies available in the Netherlands to help individuals install solar panels on their roofs.

Carrier roofing panels with sedum

Sandwich roof panels and sedum is a great combination, especially when also combined with solar panels. Many roofs are covered with sedum on the north side, while the south side is used for energy generation. Although FALK’s sandwich roof panels are beautifully finished, as a building owner you may want a profile that we do not offer in our insulated range. No problem! Our carrier sandwich roof panels are the perfect base for profiled sheets or our design profiles. These can easily be attached to the waterproof shell of the carrier panels. Carrier roofing panels with tiles

In many other parts of the world, steel roofs are a standard feature on houses. In the Netherlands, this is not yet the case, and the roof tile continues to be a staple of the Dutch streetscape. Although sandwich roof panels are a good solution in their own right, they can also be used in conjunction with roof tiles. You then benefit from a well-insulated solution where the slating battens and tiles are mounted on top of the carrier roof panel. Carrier panels for façades

Office buildings, shops, homes, distribution centres... they all deserve a contemporary design. The sandwich wall panel is a great solution for creating a windproof and watertight skin. With hundreds of colours to choose from, you can create a beautiful façade for your building. But sometimes, you might want to go that extra mile. We have developed our carrier panels with this in mind: a ‘regular’ sandwich panel, but with the load-bearing capacity to attach an accessory to the façade.

The combination of wood and steel is a favourite among many architects. Wooden battens or slats can be easily attached to the carrier sandwich panel, combined with an omega profile if required. Leaving some space between the timber slats not only helps to save on costs, but it can also create a playful look as the colour of the carrier sandwich panel is still visible.
